"Pleasant Valley Sunday"

Day 12 of 31 of The Monkees:

Guess it's time to feature a song that everyone knows -- one of their best. "Pleasant Valley Sunday" was written by Gerry Goffin and Carole King, and features Mickey on lead, Mike on backing vocals and guitar, Pete on backing vocals and piano, and Davy on backing vocals and maracas.

Released as a single before the album was released, the song reached #3 on the charts. This recording is from The Monkees' fourth album, "Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd", on November 6, 1967. The album's title comes from the boys' astrological signs; Mickey is a Pisces, Peter is an Aquarius, Mike is and Davy was a Capricorn. Since Mike and Davy shared the same sign -- and the same birthday -- they used Davy's last name at the end.

Lyrics:

The local rock group down the street
Is trying hard to learn their song
To serenade the weekend squire
Who just came out to mow his lawn

Another Pleasant Valley Sunday (Sunday)
Charcoal burning everywhere
Rows of houses that are all the same
And no one seems to care

See Mrs. Gray, she's proud today
Because her roses are in bloom
And Mr. Green, he's so serene
He's got a TV in every room

Another Pleasant Valley Sunday (Sunday)
Here in status symbol land
Mothers complain about how hard life is
And the kids just don't understand

Creature comfort goals
They only numb my soul
And make it hard for me to see (La la la la)
My thoughts all seem to stray
To places far away
I need a change of scenery

Ta ta ta ta Ta ta ta ta Ta ta ta, ta ta ta ta ta Ah, ah, ah, ah
Ta ta ta ta Ta ta ta ta Ta ta ta, ta ta ta ta ta Ah, ah, ah, ah

Another Pleasant Valley Sunday (Sunday)
Charcoal burning everywhere
Another Pleasant Valley Sunday
Here in status symbol land

Another Pleasant Valley Sunday (A Pleasant Valley Sunday)

Another Pleasant Valley Sunday (A Pleasant Valley Sunday)

Did not know Carole King co-wrote this. This was NEWS to me. Thanks. That little tidbit of information made my day.
