"Last Train To Clarksville"

Day 5 of 31 Days of The Monkees:

We in Kentuckiana, who have had very, very little snow this season, actually got some accumulation last night. Some areas got as much as 5 or 6 inches, but it didn't look like we got that much in our yard when I peeked out this morning. It isn't going to last long, whatever we got, because the temps are going back up, and we'll be close to 70° again on Wednesday. I'm sure the snow has hampered some of the recovery efforts for the people who are trying to salvage as much as they can of personal possessions after the tornado on Friday.

Okay, so let's do another song from their self-titled first album. Here's the song, "Last Train To Clarksville", written by Boyce & Hart, with Mickey Dolenz on lead and Tommy Boyce on acoustic guitar. This was their first single to make it to #1 on the charts, and is a phone call between a military service member and his wife or girlfriend. He's getting ready to ship out, and he wants her to meet him one last time, since he doesn't know if he'll ever be coming home:

Lyrics:

Take the last train to Clarksville,
And I'll meet you at the station.
You can be be there by four thirty,
'Cause I made your reservation.
Don't be slow, oh, no, no, no!
Oh, no, no, no!

'Cause I'm leaving in the morning
And I must see you again
We'll have one more night together
'Til the morning brings my train.
And I must go, oh, no, no, no!
Oh, no, no, no!
And I don't know if I'm ever coming home.

Take the last train to Clarksville.
I'll be waiting at the station.
We'll have time for coffee flavored kisses
And a bit of conversation.
Oh... Oh, no, no, no!
Oh, no, no, no!

Take the last train to Clarksville,
Now I must hang up the phone.
I can't hear you in this noisy
Railroad station all alone.
I'm feelin' low. Oh, no, no, no!
Oh, no, no, no!
And I don't know if I'm ever coming home.

Take the last train to Clarksville,
Take the last train to Clarksville,
[repeat and fade]
