I can't now remember in whose journal I read this -- so please, if you see this, contact me and let me know so I can give you credit or correct me if I'm wrong --
I opened my AOL Journal in the AOL browser (haven't tried this with Firefox)
I expanded it to fill the page
I clicked on File at the top of the page
I clicked on Save As
And it automatically gave me the option to save my journal as an eBook
I clicked on that, and then I went to My Documents
I went to my eBooks file, opened it, and there was my journal, complete with comments, graphics, and pictures, but minus the pictures that I had had stored at AOL (very few) because I'd already moved those.
I don't know if this is a permanent thing, but I thought it was another good option for backing up, other than copying and pasting. I navigated all around my journal in the saved eBook format, and the whole thing is there. Thought I would share, and I wish I could remember who figured this out first.

Some people have all the luck lol
Not working through the AOL software, so not possible this end.
I posted something similar at Just Visiting a few days ago, don't know if that's where you saw it or not. I had found the info on another blog. The only thing I worry about is that it will disappear once our AOL journals are gone.
I'm up to Oct 2005 on transferring my jnl to WORD. But....Oct 2005 was one of the best .... ahem, months in blogging b/c I was voted best Jnl at the Vivi's for Travel and I was in a Hurricane in Cancun. I am really looking forward to tomorrow and going through each entry! (your jnl looks grrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat!)
I'll have to give this a try! But I'm not worrying until I get to Oct. 7 and see how the migration goes. I love the skin on your blog! Very pretty.
I may try that too. I have mine saved now on my computer & on a cd. I went through Internet Explorer - same procedure you did. I've checked it a few times & reinserted the cd and it is all there. Just to be safe I will try your method too. Congrats to you, I'm so happy it worked for you.

I am going to have to try this. I think at some point I might print all of this stuff off and give it to my children.

Hi Lori...
no email address... and I didn't save any in AOL because of tag requests so if you could change that would be good :) thanks

I heard that work. Enjoy your Friday.
Thanks but it didn't work for me. I really don't have that much so I just copied the text to a txt file and saved it that way.
Hugs, Joyce
I did something similar through Internet Explorer at Donna's suggestion. It seemed to work, for both my journal and Ken's, and also for a private one that we have.
