LADY APRIL
by Richard Le Galliene
So, April, here thou art again,
Thou pretty, pretty lady!
With broidered skirts of sunkissed rain --
A grown-up girl, already!
Thy sister May
Is on her way,
And June, with tresses shady;
But, of the three,
I love best thee --
Thou pretty, pretty lady!
Thou hauntest all the sobering year,
With echos of thy laughter;
And life is nought till thou appear,
And but remembrance after.
Though Autumn's yield
From garth and field
Run o'er from floor to rafter,
Thy wild-rose breast
Haunts all the rest,
And makes it poor with laughter.

Oh, I envy you the smell of lilacs. I have missed that for a lot of years which was why lilacs were one of my favorite flowers. Yes, this is a beautiful poem and I certainly don't mind you reprinting it again.
Happy April to you as well and I never tire of reading a nice poem. It was a gorgeous day here as well. I love to smell the lilac trees, I am now wondering how mine made it through the winter. I had better go check! :)

I don't remember catching this before, so I'm glad you reposted. ;o) Been some really gorgeous weather in our neck of the woods as well. A beautiful, blessed Easter to you and yours.
The poem was lovely. I have a row of lilac bushes across my back yard... they smell heavenly when in bloom. ENJOY the month of April. I too am celebrating spring.

I love that poem. Happy SPRING to you!
If you love April, spring, and poetry, I recommend "when faces like flowers..." by e.e. cummings. It's a wonderful poem, too.
Hope you're still enjoying some warmth your direction. :) We're pretty cold here today. I do like the poem!
